Apologies No Answer to Mayhem and Murder

On 9/11 two American Embassies were attacked by Muslim extremists, one in Egypt and one in Benghazi, Libya,.  Christopher Stevens, our ambassador to Libya, was murdered, as well as two Marine guards and one other person.  I believe that an embassy official was also murdered in Egypt.

Yes, there was a terrible YouTube video concerning the Muslim prophet that was their justification for the attacks, but since this video came out some time ago, I think it was just used to foment these attacks to coincide with 9/11.

Please consider that a Muslim in this country is safer than a Christian in any Muslim country today.  We have free speech in this country, sometimes it is unpleasant or worse.  I know there are Libyans and
Egyptians in both countries who deplore this kind of violence and want their countries to be free of tyrannical rule, but exchanging what they had before for extremists is not the answer, either.  Always. . .be careful what you wish for.

I do not think we have anything to apologize for, as in the tepid responses of both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama in their first comments after the attacks.  Now their comments are a bit stronger.

It seems to me that what the Obama administration is doing is what I call  "reactive foreign policy," that is reacting to events rather than protecting our interests.  Apparently there was an incident in Benghazi last month when WW II graves of our soldiers were desecrated.  Anticipating an attack on both these embassies prior to 9/11 might have been a good idea.

  1. It's very difficult to come up with any reasonable response to the way extremists reacted to this latest so-called offense. If they had not had the film I'm sure they would have found something else to use. As you point out I think they just wanted to memorialize 9/11 with some sort of attack on U.S. interests. I see no immediate end to this problem.

    1. I agree, Lee. I think it was planned. I think there are hard days ahead.

  2. I would suggest that the Commander-in-Chief *not* go on the campaign trail less than 24 hours after his representative was murdered.

God bless all those who were killed, and may their deaths not be in vain.

    1. Absolutely, Mark. I cannot believe that intelligent people cannot see the dangers of "leading from behind" and appeasement. We are seen as weak and ineffective. Did you listen to Dennis Prager today? And I add my prayers to yours.

  3. I suppose officials like President Obama and Mrs. Clinton have to walk a tight rope when it comes to what they say and how they act. They err on the side of peace, which isn't a bad thing.

I pray for these officials and intelligence folks as well as the victims and their families. I've come to know this about Pres. Obama, he seems nonchalant about foreign policy and when he seemed the weakest, he made the hardest choice to go get Osama Bin Laden. That decision could have gone bad in so many ways but he had the guts to take the shot.

I am happy to see you, I lost your link but will add it to my blog right now.

    1. Point taken, Debra. It breaks my heart when I see the American flag burned and the embassies attacked when we have poured so much money into these countries. But I think the mobs are manipulated by their leaders under any pretext. There is a lot of anti-americanism in Europe as well. I know some Americans were wearing the Canadian Maple leaf on their backpack to pretend they were Canadians to avoid the hostility.

  4. I am Muslim and I don't think the attacks had anything to do with the movie. Like you said, somebody who is prepared to do something like this will look for any excuse. If it was a reaction to the movie then it was very ironic- because the Prophet Muhammad who they claim to be 'defending' would never approve of their actions.

    Peace x

  5. Thank you Jnana, for writing on this issue. From the information that we are getting, the attacks, especially on the Lybyan embassy, were well planned in advance and a plan was in place that ambushed the rescuers. It is so sad to me to see all the misplaced energy and resources wasted on violence and destruction. I know many Lybans are against the violence. So much of this is what I call transference, frustration at poverty, lack of work, feeling powerless. Easy to hate "The Great Satan," and then so easy for the terrorists to exploit and manipulate these young men.
